For Platinum
10=1/10oz
25=1/4
50=1/2
100=1 oz

Because it doesn't really matter what nominal value is printed on the coins and $12.50 on the 1/4 oz would look odd.

Well, no, it does really matter. The mint wants to perpetuate the myth that gold is not money. The discontinuity in the weight/face values encourages the perception that their coins are merely hobbyist or collectors items in the same way that the ridiculous nominal face values send the same message. If the mint really wanted to acknowledge that gold is money and encourage their gold coins to circulate as money, then there would be nothing strange at all about a $12.50 coin. But of course, the nominal face values would then have to be something more reasonable like:

1 oz = $6,000
1/2 oz = $3000
1/4 oz = $1500
1/10 oz = $600

Isn't going to happen. It's intentional. But it isn't cosmetic. It's more fundamental than that.
